My First Day At Work
10/2/13
I was a bit nervous starting my first job yesterday: Would I get along with the Staff? How would the patients deal with me? Could I handle the stress?
I had talked to my human Steve, and told him that I felt he does not need me to guard the house during the day anymore, staying alone by myself. Instead, my services would be better used as an office assistant in his Psychiatry Practice. We agreed.
When I first arrived, I appreciated the work he had done preparing the Office manager’s area for me: new layer of carpeting, no loose wires and nothing to tempt my chewing at ground level. I immediately got to work. I sniffed around quite bit to get familiar with the area, and at first was pretty excited to be there in my new job. I must admit however, I was a bit insecure at first, and whined a bit each time Steve left to see a patient. I felt better after a bit, getting comfortable in my surroundings and getting to know Elisa, the Office Manger.
After making sure things were going smoothly, I relaxed and even took a few naps.
I was impressed by the work flow of the office, and frankly, other than adding cuteness to the environment, don’t really think they need me there. Please don’t let Steve know this however, as I need the job. Also, though he may not admit it, I think he may do better with my support.
I plan on going in on a regular basis, but this week has an irregular schedule, so I will start again next week.
